The Pickens plan is all about land grab of the ROW through eminent domain to confiscate property. If he didn't need governmental authority to confiscate what he cannot buy, he wouldn't conduct this national advertising campaign. He would go about his investment quietly.

Any Right of way granted to provided for power transmission lines needs to be tied to law that forbids water pipeline construction. The promise was power would run to points East or West. So it's difficult to explain why rights of way sought run North to South.

To steal water from Ogallala Aquifer will deplete the aquifer that people living there require to sustain life. And that is what it is. Theft. It will damage or ruin farm land, making properties worthless. How much is any property worth if there is no water? The energy plan is a good idea, but the eminent domain and water theft is not in the public's interest.

This is another plan to transfer wealth from the poor to the rich. Proof of this is that this project is not open to public investment.

I'll preface my comment by saying I am neither a Republican nor a Democrat, and I am all for hearing every side of the story in order to make intelligent decisions. What disturbs me is the constant attempt to discredit anyone simply because of their association to George Bush. It’s an extremely poor tactic employed to cloud the issues and sway the minds of the less informed to form a negative opinion about any given issue.

If we can move past the "George Bush Bad" approach to evaluating the actual points of the Pickens Plan, it actually begins to sound like more of a feasible "bridge" energy plan for.

The first thing to understand is T. Boone Pickens is not claiming to be an environmentalist. He's not even attempting to pretend to be concerned about environmental issues. He made his money in oil and he supports more U.S. oil drilling as well as the development of any other United States owned energy source. His plan is not about going green, it’s about economics. The Pickens Plan is tackling only one problem: eliminate our dependency on foreign oil. We current spend over $700 billion dollars on foreign supplied oil. That’s $700 billion dollars that is not subject to any taxes. If you happen to oppose the war in Iraq, you can appreciate the dire need to reduce that dependency. Mr. Pickens proposes to reduce that amount by nearly 40% over the next 10 years.

The construction of the wind corridor and the switch to Natural Gas vehicles will make some people a lot of money, but profiting off of an energy independence plan is not a bad thing. In fact, I’m personally making money in the renewable energy business, and I’m taking advantage of the growing popularity of the Pickens Plan to help push my business agenda. I’m not ashamed of it, and I encourage others to do the same. Can't you put your money into a project that is beneficial to the country AND get a return on the investment as well? Or would you like us to believe the only investment worth any merit is one where you have no opportunity to profit?

Although I don’t have any cartoon clips to help support my views, hopefully people will still read this and become motivated to look beyond the anti-Bush propaganda and research this plan further to determine it’s potential benefits.

A lot of silly comments here. It doesn't matter whether Pickens ONLY wants to sell the water, or genuinely wants wind & gas too. Whether he wants wind or not, he is using wind as cover. The problem with this subterfuge is that he is using imminent domain to steal people’s land and suck the Ogallala reservoir dry. The Ogallala was formed by ice age melt; we are already taking out far more water than comes in each year. Many farmers and ranchers depend on this water source. Just because T Boone owns his land he should not be allowed to ruin other’s livelihoods as well as ruin a good chunk of American agriculture. So, see, it’s not about thinking people are EVIL, it’s about looking at what people are doing, & seeing that what they’re doing is not good. And I know this is hard for you to understand, but just because someone can make a profit doing something doesn’t necessarily make it good.

You guys seriously need to get your heads out of your exhaust pipes and wake the ****-up. All of these things being discussed are ways to further us down the road we are already on, specifically Highway I-Rule-and-You-Suck, headed for a massive hoe-down at the Greedy Selfish Ranch.

It's truly amazing how we Americans have become so brainwashed that we believe it's our right, our duty, and our divine charge to use up whatever resources we can find, as rapidly as it suits us, so that we can have more free time to sit around being fat and lazy.

You people who think this profit-taking is justifiable are not looking at the facts.

1) Pickens wants to sell water to people in Dallas. - Well you know what? Stealing water from the Ogallala to water lawns and wash cars is beyond stupid, it's suicidal. You can't grow crops with clean cars, and nobody eats their lawn

2) He needs the ROW to get water there, but can't do it without Eminent Domain.

3) He riders an amendment that allows Water Carriers to carry transmission lines on their ROW

4) He gets everybody all stirred up about bringing this power from the wind so that he can use his authority as a Water Carrier to annex land between his water and Dallas.

Rainer: Don't be an idiot. If he was being a philanthropist, the man wouldn't be involved in all this water bullshit.

YH is right, Pickens is nothing more than a fear mongerer trying to make sure the godless islamo-facist-commie-homos don't take over America, blessed be its name.

Sam: do you think Pickens is going to use HIS money to buy those generators? A-HAH-hahahahahahah!.

and finally, to Mark: Dude, get a grip. profit is NOT a good reason to do something. Profit is about stealing. Every act of profit is an act violence; profit is the act of taking advantage of the inferior position of another to further one's own needs. It is NOT ok. Real philanthropy is about returning things to the public commons, and not about building trust funds, institutions and foundations with the money you stole from the public.

The facts are not spelled out correctly...Fact is Pickens is a Billionaire, He is also 80 YEARS OLD! And all those Billions he has, well Fact is he is leaving it all to charity! So where is your arguement now? What does an 80 year old man, with Billions of dollars which he is leaving to charity have to gain? How old do you think is going to live? Some people just have to believe that humans are inheritently EVIL! Try to find the good in people and you will live a much richer life!
